Do more short videos! I pretty much never watch your regular videos because
they’re TOO DAMN LONG! If you want proof, look at your google
analytics>audience retention and see how fast people tune out of loooooong
videos.
Have you ever had to deal with any of the really bad perennial weeds?
Nutgrass, Cogon grass, bindweed, knotweed, docks, kudzu vine, that sort of
thing?
If so, how did you go? Any tips? If not, just thank the gods for your luck!
;-)
that weed you were holding is actually nutsedge and they are edible (which
you know since you ate it!). They actually indicate poor drainage, watering
too frequently, or leaky sprinklers.
every year after i weed wack my yard i throw everything into my compost
pile, the only seeds that pop up from there are like tomatoes, peppers, or
whatever fruits but i never really get weeds
Most folks are looking for short instructional videos focused on single
subjects. More often than not when I go looking for a video it’s either
about a problem I may be having, or some idea I’m copnsidering and I look
for folks already doing it.They will occasionally put up with something
longer if they are following your garden itself as well, or when you go to
something like an heirloom seed savers’ gathering.
Consider this, I am a subscriber of yours, so that should tell you where I
stand either way. Sometimes one of your long videos is on something I’m
interested in, and I have the time on hand to watch it.
Nothing better than getting your hands dirty and ripping out some weeds.
Sure, it’s a chore. But if you make sure the soil is moist, you can usually
pull them out quite easily.
Hi John, I really want to thank you for all your inspiring videos. Please
do not let some people discourage you from making videos as long as you
like, because in the longer videos I get more of an in depth understanding
for the reasons why you do things, plus I can catch more of your enthusiasm
for gardening in the longer videos! I feel like I’ve been at a party in
your garden after your longer videos.
If people don’t like the way you do your channel, let them do their own
channels.
i weed around the base of the plant, but i leave the grass and weeds grow
beyond that to help keep moisture in soil and help minimize bug attack on
the garden. cardboard box idea works, but b carefull as they may b put
through some chemical processing, which then is composted into your soil,
and u don’t want that in your edible plants. i personally would not risk
bothering using cardboard boxes as u don’t know where the material from the
boxes came from to make the boxes nor the processing used to make them.
John, all of your videos are Great! Short is good for simple topics, longer
is good for more in depth topics. There all good! I have always enjoyed
your videos and look forward to future videos. Don’t let the complainers
get to you. Carry on John!
I have 8 acres in my yard but it is mostly cover in wooded area. I was
still able to put an 8×8 raised garden in the middle of my back yard, two
apple trees, 20-30 malberry trees, and two fig trees. Also I live in new
jersey so we have a lot of miniature wild bluberries as well as wild
strawberries, wild grapes, and raspberries. I have a large front yard that
is a little more then an acre and we have two large trees so I would be
limited to a shade garden which I would have to get permission from my
parents. I’m twelve so yeah. P.s. the Malberries are wild and there are
black/purple and white ones.
For me your format is ok. I enjoy your enthusiasm and get lots if
inspiration from your videos. Good that you include time-line in the
description when applicable.
John, make these videos however you want. You have sooo many subscribers
because we like what you’re doing. Don’t change because of a some
complaints. It’s working, don’t mess with success. If it wasn’t working
you wouldn’t have as many subs as you do.
Weeds: Plants growing where we don’t want them.
I’m surprised you didn’t say “Smother the weeds out with plants you want.”
Planting plants close together and well mulched will help keep weeds at
bay. I like to deep mulch because it is so beneficial to what I plant. As
the mulch is broken down and composted it feeds the plants, helps retain
moisture and pulling weeds out of deep mulch is effortless. They just don’t
have much to hold onto and pull out easily.
Pouring boiling hot water on weeds does a good job at killing them. For
some weeds spraying them with vinegar will burn them, but it has to be
repeated to wipe them out. And, *no* it will *not* affect the pH of the
soil. You just spray it on the weeds, you’re not soaking the soil with the
vinegar.

It’s all good, John, “the creed of weed is avoid the seed!”

France bans Monsanto Roundup after UN declares it a probable carcinogen.
Roundup or Agent Orange can cause terrible birth defects.
I do not like pulling weeds but there is one plus – they provide plenty of
nitrogen for my compost pile.
