  5. Excellent points Patrick! I always stress in my beginning gardening videos
to watch for sun direction. The deciduous trees can create an unpleasant
surprise (for gardeners) when summer rolls around. I rent the home where we
live and when we first moved, 5 years ago, a deciduous tree close to my
garden was about 1/4 the size it is now. OUCH! There was no shade on my
garden 5 years ago, but now? Well, it shades about 1/6th of my garden.

  11. This series you are starting is a GREAT idea. It will be fun to follow you
and see how many ‘newbies’ will be commenting. They would be very smart to
take your advice. It will save them lots of money & energy in the long
    run. Take care Patrick.

  12. I’m from the Netherlands and it sounds very weird for me that you need a
permit for having a vegetable garden……. Never heard of it here :)

  15. Great video Patrick.
It is amazing that authorities in the US have restrictions on what you can
grow in your own yard.I can pretty much plant any type of garden I like in
    my yard, front or back.
Your garden there is looking amazing.

Great tips. Likes the slope component.

And Oscar… He is very athletic, and a true asset for pest control.

  17. Great video, Patrick! This will be a wonderful series for beginning

  21. …”We still manage to grow quite a bit of food…” I`d say that that was
the understatement of the year Patrick. The garden/jungle looks amazing.

  22. Very good points Patrick. Just sent a friend over to look at your cold
frames and he’s subbed you. This could be just what he needs.

Great video Patrick…I wish I would have thought about the shading of the
trees before I ventured out…lol this big oak tree is putting a damper on
    my production rate :-/
